Technology references

In an effort to make the main text of this book as timeless as possible, I have generally avoided referring to everyday systems whose character or name I expect will change as technology advances. Inevitably, however, I do discuss computers, even though I fully expect that some of the terms and concepts I use in connection with them will end up seeming dated in a matter of a few decades.
