A CA Approach for Estimating Transient Surface Heating
Vallorie Peridier

A cellular automaton model for energy transport into a medium was devised to calculate a classic one-dimensional inverse problem in heat transfer. The problem considered is the estimation of transient surface heating, as detected by a subsurface thermocouple. The cellular automaton approach generates estimates of comparable accuracy to conventional numerical solution strategies. The talk will consider useful scaling issues when quantitative results are of interest in engineering applications.
